Katherine Sweetser is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working mostly with individual adults. She has worked extensively with couples; a lot of that work in her private practice in Hawaii. She used some training materials from Ellyn Bader’s Couples Institute, which emphasizes developmental stages for both the individuals and the couple.
In Hawaii, as here in California, she has worked with adolescents, mostly working with the usual social and family issues. In Hawaii, she also worked with juvenile sex offenders, using a curriculum designed by Catholic Charities, emphasizing the importance of consent. In Hawaii, there are many ethnic groups, and she learned about most of them as well as their cross-cultural dynamics. Here in California, she has been learning about Hispanic cultures. Her orientation is psycho-dynamic, though she uses many elements of cognitive-behavioral work when more structure seems to be needed.
